1. WPG's revenue increased by nearly 30% in the first half of the year, benefiting from the rapid development of AI
WPG Holdings recently announced at the corporate briefing that its revenue in the second quarter of 2025 hit the second highest in a single quarter, reaching NT$250.452 billion; operating profit was NT$4.906 billion, up 14.5% quarter-on-quarter and 32.7% year-on-year; net profit after tax was NT$2.196 billion, up 15.1% quarter-on-quarter and 34% year-on-year.
WPG's revenue in the first half of the year was NT$499.286 billion, a year-on-year increase of 28.1%; operating profit was NT$9.19 billion, a year-on-year increase of 32.3%; net profit was NT$4.084 billion, a year-on-year increase of 14.1%.
The above revenue growth benefited from the rapid development of generative AI, which drove the increase in demand for related traditional and AI servers, power supplies, PCs, NBs and other electronic components, resulting in strong shipments. The rapid development of generative AI, edge computing and cloud services has promoted the continuous increase of related traditional and AI servers, power supplies, automotive, IoT and other solutions, laying a good foundation for turnover growth.
WPG expects third-quarter revenue of NT$245 billion to NT$265 billion, with an estimated gross profit margin of 3.7% to 3.9%, an estimated operating profit margin of 1.91% to 2.09%, and an estimated net profit after tax of NT$2.486 billion to NT$2.022 billion.
2. Infineon completed the acquisition of Marvell's automotive Ethernet business
Infineon announced on August 14 local time that it has successfully completed the acquisition of Marvell Technology's automotive Ethernet business. The transaction was announced in April 2025 and has received all necessary regulatory approvals.
With the acquisition, Infineon strengthens its leadership in automotive semiconductors and enhances system expertise in software-defined vehicles, which is expected to deliver approximately $4 billion in design-win potential and significant future revenue growth by 2030. Infineon plans to integrate the newly acquired Ethernet business into the automotive division to drive innovation and quickly translate into customer value.
The automotive Ethernet portfolio includes physical layer (PHY) transceivers, switches, and bridges that deliver high-performance networking capabilities, support data rates from 100 Mbps to 10 Gbps, and provide the necessary security and protection features for current and future automotive networks.
3. Samsung's three major market shares such as DRAM declined in the first half of the year
According to the Science and Technology Innovation Board Daily, Samsung Electronics' market share in the fields of DRAM memory and smartphone display panels in the first half of 2025 will be weaker than in 2024, both falling below the 40% mark.
Among them, in terms of the DRAM business responsible for the DS branch memory division, its memory market share reached 41.5% last year, but only 32.7% in the first half of this year, a decline of 8.8 percentage points.
The market share of the smartphone display panel business 'dived' from 50.1% in 2023 to 41.0% in 2024, and then fell further by 1.1 percentage points to 39.9%.
4. Lanqi Technology released a new sixth-generation Jinji performance core CPU
Lanqi Technology recently released the sixth-generation Jinji Performance Core CPU (C6P), which supports up to 86 high-performance cores and 172 threads in a single CPU, with a maximum L3 cache capacity of 336MB. The product supports single and dual deployment, and realizes efficient collaboration between multiple processors through 4 UPI interconnection channels (maximum speed of 24GT/s).
Its memory subsystem adopts an 8-channel DDR5 architecture and supports up to 6400MT/s RDIMM or 8000MT/s MRDIMM, significantly improving memory bandwidth and expansion capabilities to meet the stringent needs of AI training, big data analysis and other scenarios. In terms of high-speed I/O expansion, the C6P provides 88 PCIe 5.0 lanes and is compatible with the CXL 2.0 protocol, providing excellent connection bandwidth for GPU, FPGA and other accelerators.
The C6P adopts a package and pin design that is completely consistent with the Intel Xeon 6 processor, fully supports the X86 instruction set, and users can seamlessly migrate existing applications without modification, greatly reducing the cost and complexity of system upgrades.
5. BGI Jiutian has achieved a breakthrough in EDA in the whole process of domestic storage
According to relevant reports quoted by Fast Technology, Huada Jiutian, a leading domestic EDA company, has launched the only full-process EDA solution for memory chips that can support the mass production of ultra-large-scale Flash/DRAM, realizing a one-stop service of design, verification and mass production.
According to BGI Jiutian, the company's full-process EDA solution for storage has directly hit the pain points of the industry, broken through the bottleneck of traditional design models trapped in massive arrays and complex signal processing, and met the strict requirements of ultra-large-scale Flash/DRAM memory chips for storage density, performance, delivery efficiency, etc.
This solution has also become a favorable starting point for breaking through the dilemma of mass production of memory chips, breaking the foreign monopoly in this field, strongly supporting the healthy and sustainable development of China's memory chip market, and installing a strong 'Chinese engine' for the development of the domestic storage industry.
6. SoftBank's $2 billion investment in Intel will become the fifth largest shareholder
According to Fast Technology News, Intel announced that SoftBank Group and Intel signed a definitive securities purchase agreement, and SoftBank will subscribe for Intel's common stock at $23 per share, with a total investment of $2 billion. According to the data, SoftBank's investment accounts for about 2% of Intel's shares, making it Intel's fifth largest shareholder.
Intel CEO Chen Liwu also said that he has worked closely with SoftBank CEO Son for decades and expressed his gratitude for Son's trust and decision to make this investment. For SoftBank, the investment further expands its footprint in the field of chips and AI, which acquired Arm in 2016 and now has a market capitalization of nearly $150 billion; This year, it won Ampere Computing for $6.5 billion.
